5th Annual Purple 5K Run
Funds raised from KAFSC’s Annual Purple 5K Run will go to providing various services for domestic violence and sexual assault victims and survivors at Rainbow House Shelter and our Transitional Housing Program.
Rainbow House Shelter, a safe haven for victim-survivors in immediate crisis, is the only emergency shelter of its kind within the Korean community in New York City. Following Women in Need Center’s (formerly known as Rainbow Center of NY) merger with KAFSC in 2014, Rainbow House Emergency Shelter has provided clients with access to housing, familiar ethnic meals, transportation, therapy, and other public benefits. In its first year with KAFSC, Rainbow House Shelter provided 475 in-person counseling sessions and temporary housing services for 28 women and children. In 2017, the shelter and its staff provided over 1,000 bed nights to women and children in need. Clients are also referred to other appropriate services available at KAFSC’s main office, such as additional counseling, case management, access to support groups, transitional housing services, legal advocacy, and job-training classes.
Transitional Housing services, which are often necessary on the road to self-sufficiency for many victim-survivors, are available through KAFSC’s Transitional Housing Program. Under this program, clients may be eligible for rent subsidies for up to 18 months, childcare assistance, counseling, case management services, and referral to other community-based organizations for additional services and resources, among others.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Astoria Park, rain or shine!
