Community Outreach & Education
KAFSC’s Community Outreach and Education Department engages with community members to create locally-based solutions to end gender-based domestic violence. The Community Engagement team provides information and training in both Korean and English to service providers and community members.
KAFSC also participates in various community meetings, events, and partnerships throughout New York City for the purpose of raising awareness on domestic violence and sexual assault while promoting our advocacy for survivors and the communities we serve.
Hotline Volunteer Dispatcher Training
Hotline Volunteer Dispatcher Training prepares individuals to be volunteers for our 24-hour Korean/English bilingual hotline service. Volunteers gain a deep understanding of challenges and obstacles that survivors of domestic violence face and also receive training on information and resources that are available for such individuals. We educate volunteers on the following topics:
• Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault
• Child and Elder Abuse
• Substance Abuse
• Basic Counselling Skills
• Guidelines for Hotline Service
• Housing Options & Financial Planning
• Legal Advocacy Including Family Law, Immigration Law, and Criminal Law
• KAFSC’s Holistic and Comprehensive Services
